Happy National Nurse Practitioners Week!

To my School of Nursing Colleagues:

National Nurse Practitioner Week – which kicks off today, Nov. 11, and runs through week’s end, Nov. 15 – is a chance for all of us to salute the nurse practitioners who we know, respect, learn from and love. And the nurse practitioners who teach at UVA are among the best I’ve ever known.

Caring. Compassionate. Exceptional in the way they practice and the way they educate and inspire others.

As you know, nurse practitioners occupy a special place in the health care universe. And in the wake of the Affordable Care Act, they’re poised to become ever busier and even more critical in keeping so many of us well.

I hope you’ll join me this week in thanking these individuals – our School of Nursing nurse practitioners who are both teachers and clinicians, among the nation’s 155,000 practicing NPs today – who offer such exceptional service to our students and community:
