The ELNEC curriculum addresses the essential components of palliative care, including the family as the unit of care, the important role of the nurse as advocate, the imperative for interdisciplinary care in ensuring quality palliative care, the importance of culture as an influence in palliative care, critical financial issues that influence palliative care, and the critical need for attention to special populations such as ethnic minorities, the poor, and the uninsured.
