New art installation salutes healthcare workers for their service

On Monday, June 27, UVA Health dedicated a piece of art donated by artist Deane Bowers to recognize healthcare providers for their bravery, service, and dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

The Together While Apart art project was created by 19 different artists from nine different states during the height of the pandemic as a way for the artist community to connect in their isolation.

However, because Deane’s daughter Mary Bowers graduated from the UVA School of Nursing in 2019 just before the pandemic began, Deane Bowers felt that the artwork had a larger meaning and offered a message of hope and thanks to all healthcare professionals for their service. 

The artwork is located at the entrance of the Primary Care Center in the Medical Center.
