Community Based Undergraduate Research Grants

  • Any full-time UVA 1st, 2nd or 3rd year undergraduate
  • For students or teams conducting research on a documented public health issue
  • Up to $3,000 ($5,000 for a team)

Jefferson Public Citizens Program

  • Any UVA undergraduate student
  • For students with a topic, faculty advisor and community partner, JPC offers funds for research projects.
  • Up to $20,000 (including stipends, money for supplies, travel expenses, etc.)

Nursing Alumni Association Roy C. Beazley Undergraduate Merit Scholarship

  • For rising 3rd and 4th year BSN students and RN to BSN students
  • For academic excellence and professional promise.

  • For any undergrad or grad nursing student to assist in attending a professional nursing conference

  • Any UVA undergraduate or graduate student pursuing independent research with special consideration for interdisciplinary projects

The Double Hoo Research Grant

  • For any full-time UVA 1st, 2nd, 3rd-year undergraduate and graduate student working in pairs
  • The award supports pairs of undergraduate and graduate scholars seeking to pursue joint research projects

School of Nursing International Scholarship

  • For any UVA undergraduate or graduate nursing student wanting to study abroad
  • Intended to help defray some of the costs of international academic and exchange programs
  • Up to $3,000

The Nancy Ballard Award

  • For any undergraduate or graduate nursing student member of Beta Kappa, UVA's chapter of Sigma Theta Tau
  • Selection is based on the student's scholarship and academic achievements as well as a brief statement about the use of the money

Rodriguez Nursing Student Research & Leadership Fund

  • For undergraduate and graduate nursing students seeking learning opportunities to complement and extend their nursing education
  • emphasis is on opportunities in rural Virginia or other US locations

Phyllis J. Verhonick Clinical Research Award

  • For Beta Kappa members conducting research
  • Preference is given based on the scientific merit of the project, its relevance to nursing practice, the involvement of the member in Beta Kappa activities, and prior approval from IRB or the appropriate committee

  • For Beta Kappa members who are presenting research at a regional, national, or international conference or meeting
  • Applications will be judged on the quality of the research design, the relevance of the research to nursing, and the involvement of the member in Beta Kappa activities

President's Scholarship

  • The Beta Kappa President's Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievement by student members of the Beta Kappa Chapter in good standing who are matriculating at an accredited university nursing program. This scholarship award from the local chapter supports Sigma's global mission to foster excellence, scholarship, and leadership in nursing to improve healthcare.

The Naomi Rhodes Sims Scholarship

  • For PhD in Nursing students who are interested in gerontology scholarship and practice are encouraged to apply. Sims Scholars work directly with research faculty conducting research in gerontology
  • $2,000 a year for travel to professional conferences

The Conway Scholars Program

Conway Community Scholars is a scholarship program intended to increase Clinical Nurse Leaders in communities across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

  • Eligible applicants are Virginia residents with demonstrated financial need as indicated on the FAFSA
  • Substantial tuition support is provided for both years of the two year master’s entry CNL Program
  • Scholars are required to complete a minimum number of community service hours
  • To apply, students will indicate interest on the CNL program application and then complete the separate Conway application

Katherine M. Donohoe Clinical Research Award

  • For graduate nursing students, nursing faculty, and partnerships between nursing faculty and/or graduate nursing students and nurse clinicians
  • Research projects should focus on clinical nursing research aimed toward testing clinical practices to improve patient care. Preference is given to projects that explore chronic health conditions
