Biography

Friberg is passionate about teaching and learning. Her personal mission in life is to “shatter need and explode access” as the phrase creates a sense of urgency to focus on solving big system problems for the greater good. Arriving late in her career to academia, she embraced a broader teaching role and inquiry into the science of deep learning and meaning-making. How we learn greatly informs her teaching and her own learning. She values the use of aggregate information to improve teaching pedagogy and the design, delivery and evaluation of programs of study for students. Teaching in a practice profession such as nursing requires translational components. Nursing student learning requires not only depth and meaning but also translation into practice to improve safe, effective, high quality health and illness care for all human beings. Friberg believes assessing how and what nursing students learn is critical for the future of nursing practice.
