Biographical Information
Patricia M. Quill graduated with a degree in nursing education from Saint Vincent’s Hospital and Medical Center School of Nursing in 1956. She continued her education by enrolling in the Health Science Center in Syracuse, New York, to pursue a nurse practitioner program. Quill became an active member and advocate of the New York State Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (NYSCONP), and eventually served as its president. After many years working with NYSCONP, Quill became the coordinator of health services for the Orange Ulster Board of Cooperative Educational Services. This organization worked with handicapped students within select school districts in the state of New York. In 2000, Quill became president of the American College of Nurse Practitioners, a non-profit body based in Washington, D.C. The organization advocates for nurse practitioner legislative policies in Congress.
Scope and Content
The collection has been arranged into two separate boxes. The first deals with Ms. Quill’s time at Saint Vincent’s Hospital, as a student, alumna, and proud supporter. Within the first box is also a finding aid and brief newspaper editorial describing Ms. Quill’s educational and professional timeline. The second box primarily deals with Ms. Quill’s time as a member and eventual president of the New York State Coalition of Nurse Practitioners (NYSCONP). Within this box are legislative and senatorial proceedings in relation to nurse practitioner governmental policies within the state of New York. There is also one oversized item within this collection, which contains the publication “Blue Notes”, an earlier form of the alumnae newsletter at Saint Vincent’s Hospital.
