International Women’s Day—a moment for people to collectively commemorate the cultural, political, and socio-economic achievements of women—is Tuesday, March 8, 2022. By celebrating it, we bring focus on the women’s rights movement, and the challenges women face related to gender and pay equality, reproductive rights, violence, and abuse: issues that have been central to my work over the course of my personal and professional life.

This year’s theme—#BreakTheBias—asks participants to “strike a pose” against discrimination, bias, stereotyping, and inequality, chiming in their support of women everywhere through selfies. I’m asking all of you to be a part of UVA School of Nursing’s celebration of International Women’s Day March 8 by striking a pose with me, snapping a selfie, and sharing/liking our community's #BreakTheBias posts across our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

It only takes a moment to take part and affirm your support of women around the world. I hope you’ll join me.
