Topics of focus include alcohol and the liver transplant candidate, anonymous living donation, liver-pulmonary syndromes, socioeconomic, racial and gender disparities in transplant, indications for liver transplant for patients with liver cancer, xenotransplant, normothermic machine perfusion for deceased organs, and hepatocellular cancer beyond Milan criteria. The first part of the course will conclude with an engaging mock selection committee comprised of physicians, nursing, social work and nutrition. The second part of the course covers relevant topics in hepatology. These topics include management of patients with esophageal varices, inpatient and outpatient primary care management of patients with cirrhosis and when to refer for liver transplant evaluation.
