UVA Schwartz Center Rounds: "But He Says This All the Time"

When a patient is involuntarily discharged from a clinic because of their behavior, how does it affect the care team? Join us to hear from an interprofessional panel about their experience with a patient who exhibited threatening and racist behaviors toward the staff, which lead to dismissal from the clinic.

Course Description:

Schwartz Center Rounds are interprofessional panel based discussions that allow for health care providers to reflect and share about how they are affected by their work.  The goal of the program is to foster and support empathy , collaboration and compassion for self and others.

Target Audience: Physicians, Nurses, APPs, Chaplains, Social Work, All Staff

Desired Outcomes:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

•                Describe the social, emotional, ethical, and personal issues that arise during the care of patients and their impact on caregivers.

•                Demonstrate enhanced communication with patients, family members and colleagues.

•                Value opportunities to explore and understand multiple perspectives across professions and disciplines.

•                Value opportunities to provide and receive professional support.

•                Model for learners behaviors of nonjudgmental listening and respect.
