School of Nursing Parents Council
The mission of the School of Nursing Parents Council (SONPC) is to enhance the nursing student experience.
SONPC is one of three boards, along with the School of Nursing Advisory Board and Alumni Council, that provide guidance to School of Nursing leadership.
Established in 2013, SONPC gives voice to parents who provide insight, leadership and philanthropic support to make the School of Nursing student experience even better.
Members support the Nursing Annual Fund, which in turn funds the most vital operations at the School, including student research, instruction, and scholarships.
What We Do
SONPC meets twice annually, on Friday afternoons in the Fall and Spring semesters.
Council meetings provide parents with the opportunity to meet each other, dialogue with faculty and leadership about their child’s experience, strategize about overall parent engagement and provide advice and counsel. SONPC has successfully advocated for:
- Increased lighting on grounds
- Safe ride options to clinical rotations
- Medical Spanish class offerings
Outside of meetings, members are encouraged to continue their involvement, including
- Hosting or organizing parent gatherings
- Helping the School cultivate philanthropic relationships with other parents
- Providing outreach to other nursing parents during key times of the year
SONPC is led by the Chair with support from the Vice Chairs and staffed by the Associate Director of Development for the School of Nursing. Membership is for one year and is renewable.
