Once upon a former life, I considered a career as a healthcare provider, but English definitely trumped chemistry. Now it's especially satisfying to promote nursing and nursing education here at UVA in support of some of the profession's best and brightest faculty and students.

Before joining the UVA School of Nursing in 2004 to create the position of Director of Communications, Dory had 20 years of experience in public relations and marketing communications in positions ranging from account executive with a New Jersey PR/advertising agency, to Director of Communications for the North Jersey March of Dimes, and as a personnel consultant for a New York City PR search firm.

In 1994, she founded a consulting business to serve a highly diverse client list including health care providers, financial services, lifestyle companies, technology firms, international trade show organizers, and award-winning marketing agencies. She has worked with journalists from local weekly newspapers to national magazines and international dailies, and from Charlottesville’s newest media to CNN and New York City’s Z-100 radio station.  Dory has managed on-site press offices for domestic and international trade shows, including at the Paris Air Show, and handled crisis communications for a large Red Cross chapter destroyed by arson.  In 2001, when she was an active Rotarian, she served as photojournalist for a Rotaplast surgical mission to Trelew, Argentina.

Dory received her degree in English from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan.
