Carol Lynn Maxwell-Thompson graduated from West Virginia University School of Nursing in 1972. After attending Villanova University, she completed her Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Virginia in 1984. She completed the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program in 2000 and has volunteered as an FNP at the Charlottesville Free Clinic since 2000. She is currently employed at the CVS Minute Clinic as an FNP.

She is Faculty with the American Heart Association (AHA) and certified UVA Nursing students as AHA BLS CPR Instructors. She is faculty advisor for the statewide Virginia Nursing Student Association (VNSA) as well as the local chapter, Student Nurses Association of Virginia.

Research Focus

Ms. Maxwell-Thompson is interested in research related to asthma and allergies.

Clinical Focus

Ms. Maxwell-Thompson has had many nursing roles in her 41 years in nursing. She has worked at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Children’s Hospital of Washington DC as an intensive care nurse. She has practiced in adult and pediatric care from intensive care to chronic care, from nursing at the bedside to administrative roles. She has taught nursing in a community college, a diploma school of nursing and currently at the University of Virginia’s baccalaureate program. She has taught across programs in the undergraduate traditional program, RN-BSN program, and the CNL program.
