Bio Sketch:
Mr. Hysell has worked in higher education administration for over 20 years, and has been with the University of Virginia since 2000. In his role as Assistant Dean for Graduate Student Services, he oversees graduate financial aid, admissions, and student progression at the School of Nursing (including writing grants for student scholarship support). He is the School’s primary admissions recruiter, and travels across the Commonwealth, as well as nationally and internationally to encourage individuals to advance their professional nursing goals. He also works closely with the HR Department at the University of Virginia Medical Center and travels at major nursing conventions to help hire nurses (who in turn could receive free tuition at UVA).

Mr. Hysell has a special interest in enhancing the diversity in nursing (in terms of gender, life experiences and cultural/ethnic backgrounds). He is also committed to distance education, and encouraging working nurses to advance their academic and professional goals while remaining in their home communities.

Mr. Hysell currently supports the activities of several HRSA- and privately-funded nursing education grants (Community/Public Health Leadership distance education grant; diversity in Second Degree to Nursing grant; distance education & Geriatrics; and Geriatric Nursing in underserved areas). He is the PI for four HRSA grants currently: the Advanced Education Nurse Traineeship (AENT); the Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP); and two grants for Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students (SDS).
