Bio Sketch:
Dr. Ann Hamric received her BSN from Vanderbilt University, her MS in medical-surgical nursing from the University of California at San Francisco and her PhD in nursing with a concentration in ethics from the University of Maryland at Baltimore. She has worked as a staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, nursing administrator and educator.
Dr. Hamric has served as senior editor for 6 books on advanced practice nursing: two editions of The Clinical Nurse Specialist in Theory and Practice, and Advanced Practice Nursing: An Integrative Approach, which she edited with Judith Spross and Charlene Hanson; the fouth edition of this book will be published in 2008. She is an active national and international speaker and author on issues related to advanced practice nursing. In addition, she has served on national Task Forces related to advanced practice nursing, most recently the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s Task Force on the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree Essentials.
In the area of ethics, Dr. Hamric has served on four interdisciplinary ethics committees beginning in 1975, and currently is a member of UVA’s Ethics Committee. In addition to her work with the Center for Biomedical Ethics and Humanities, she serves on the Faculty Advisory Board of the Institute for Practical Ethics at the University of Virginia. Her research deals with moral reasoning and moral behavior of health care providers, ethical issues in research, and the phenomenon of moral distress.

Moral Distress and ethical behavior of healthcare providers, research integrity and research ethics, and advanced practice nursing role issues.
