Nursing Students Without Borders


Save the Date! NSWB, a student-run organization at the School of Nursing dedicated to international service and learning, is hosting a benefit dinner and silent auction to assist the group's outreach in El Salvador. This event will take place at 6:30PM on March 14 at the King Family Vineyards in Crozet,VA . Each year, the U.Va. Nursing Alumni Association recognizes the achievements of two alumni by presenting the Distinguished Alumna/Alumnus Award and Young Alumna/Alumnus Award. Is there a classmate, mentor, or friend-a graduate of U.Va. School of Nursing-who comes to mind? Guidelines for both awards are on the website. A detailed letter of nomination is all that's required, but additional supporting documents are welcome!

Nominations are due March 15, 2008.

Ann Gill Taylor
Dr. Taylor was quoted in a recent article about a U.Va. biomedical engineering study on how magnets can reduce swelling after injuries. Her research in the Center for the Study of Complementary and Alternative Therapies (CSCAT) involves the use of magnets to treat chronic pain.

FACULTY ACHIEVEMENTS


Clay Hysell was awarded the Peach Award from the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA) This award is given to individuals who have demonstrated long-term support of the organization.

Lori Cwalina has been named Assistant VP for Development for the SON Alumni & Development Office. Lori holds a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Virginia and a Master's in Educational Policy from the College of William & Mary. She has over 10 years of progressive fundraising experience at William & Mary, the University of Virginia, and most recently the National Cathedral School in Washington, DC.

Julie Goodlick has been named Director of Alumni Affairs and Donor Relations for the SON Alumni and Development Office effective February 18. Julie holds a B.S. in English and Speech Communications and a Master's Degree in Communications from Illinois State University. She brings 15 years of extensive alumni relations experience from her alma mater.

Women-Centered Research, Outreach at U.Va.


The Women in Leadership & Philanthropy gift catalog features women-focused philanthropy opportunities - in all gift amount ranges - in the University's capital campaign. Some gift choices directly benefit the School of Nursing, and include such items as research study funding in the areas of women's health, international women's health service projects, and much-needed maternal/child items for the school's Clinical Simulation Learning Center.
