Make a Gift to Cancer Nursing and Research

We seek to establish the UVa School of Nursing as a leader in the field of oncology nursing and as a respected member of the UVa Health System’s multi-disciplinary oncology research team. One of only eighteen clinical research centers in the country designated by the National Cancer Institute, the University of Virginia Cancer Center is committed to providing patient-centered, effective, and efficient care to all specialties within oncology. As a component of the services provided to cancer patients and their families, the School of Nursing plays an integral role in providing the oncology care providers of the future.

Working closely with nurse colleagues in the University of Virginia Cancer Center, Dr. Patricia Hollen has spearheaded an effort to create a formal vehicle for collaboration between the School of Nursing faculty and Cancer Center nurses. The result has been the creation of the Nursing Research Council, which brings together nursing faculty and Cancer Center nurses in a collaborative effort to identify and develop nurse-initiated projects in oncology nursing.

We seek to establish two endowed graduate fellowships and one post-doctoral fellowship to provide Dr. Hollen with qualified research collaborators. Once the program is fully developed, it will be possible to attract outstanding junior faculty and additional graduate students to Virginia. These students will greatly benefit by working as members of a research team designed to ensure that nursing care meets the needs of patients with cancer.

Furthermore, we will work to establish an Oncology Research Endowment Fund to support the research initiatives of the faculty member occupying the Malvina Yuille Boyd Professorship in Oncology Nursing. As the endowment fund grows, it will also provide seed money for the research initiatives of junior faculty in the field of oncology nursing. A professional development fund will enable faculty and students to attend professional conferences.

Two Endowed Fellowships at $250,000 each $500,000
One Post-Doctoral Fellowship $250,000
Endowed Research Fund $500,000
Professional Development Fund $100,000
