Applying to the UVa School of Nursing
Congratulations on your decision to pursue nursing education at the
University of Virginia School of Nursing! We offer exceptional programs for
students who want to become a nurse, as well as advanced programs for RNs who
want to advance in the profession. The options are many, and the quality remains
consistently high across programs. The University of Virginia is consistently

Undergraduate
- You're a high school graduate, or will be soon (traditional
BSN program for
first-year entry)
- You're a transfer student from another major or another college or university
(BSN program for transfer students)
- You’re a registered nurse (RN) with an associates degree or diploma and would
like to advance your career or professional commitment to nursing (RN-to-BSN
program)
Graduate
- You have a bachelor's or graduate degree in a field other than nursing and are
looking for a career change (Clinical Nurse Leader program)
- You have a BSN degree and want to advance your nursing career with a master's
degree (MSN program)
- You have a MSN degree, and seek certification in an additional nursing specialty
(post-MSN programs)
- You have a BSN or master's degree in nursing and want a doctoral degree in nursing or
nursing practice (PhD or DNP programs)
- You have a BSN or MSN degree and want to take a course on a non-degree basis (Special Student Status)
- You want to do post-doctoral work in nursing (post-doctoral fellowships)
- You are a nurse outside the United States and want to take classes at UVa (International
Visiting Student)
Admissions Deadlines
Most nursing degree programs have specific admission application
deadlines. You are welcome to submit the online application before the dates
listed below. The undergraduate, Clinical Nurse Leader, and DNP admissions committees
start reviewing files after the set deadlines. The other graduate programs
operate on a rolling admissions basis.

Open Houses & Information Sessions
Thank you for your interest in the School of Nursing.
We host general information sessions about the undergraduate and graduate
programs throughout the year. These sessions provide information on the school's academic
programs, admissions requirements, and financial aid along with break-out sessions
with faculty and students. A tour of the nursing school is also conducted. These information sessions are held in Claude Moore Nursing Education Building (across from McLeod Hall) - click here for parking information and directions.
